An entry on the BET News blog asks if the civil rights organization is doing enough with today’s youth. Good question, but beyond just that, is the NAACP doing anything for anyone? Progressive leadership is not the first phrase I think of when I hear the name NAACP. Old fogie is more like it. I’m sure the NAACP’s numerous branches do lots of good work all over the country, but there just isn’t much creativity and leadership there. Every time a famous white person does something wrong he/she automatically goes to Al Sharpton. That’s a good look for the rev, but shouldn’t the storied civil rights champion of decades past be making more noise? The NAACP definitely needs some young people to pump some new ideas in and get a firm grasp of the issues that matter to people. Financial literacy, quality public education, entrepreneurship, fair wages…let’s get some serious traction on these issues.
Is there an organization that has picked up where the NAACP left off?

To a very large extent “financial literacy, quality public education, entrepreneurship, fair wages…” are the mainstay of the NAACP’s sphere of influence. They’re a quieter more infrastructure oriented agency these days.
Less rhetoric, more quiet, dignified, hard, I guess thankless work
