School Daze Turns 20

14 Jan

School Daze is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year. Can you believe that? Does that make you feel old? Makes me feel old. Anywho, in honor of this cinematic gem, I’m posting this clip of the showdown between the Jigaboos and the Wannabees. Spike Lee is a friggin’ genius. Who else would think to set a historically black college as the backdrop to a musical exploring some often ignored issues in the black community? And then actually make it good!

For all you true blue fans, I have “I Don’t Want To Be Alone” after the jump. Shout out to Tisha Campbell. I seriously know every bit of choreography in this.

I loved this movie, and am also happy that it is still around and still revelant in black film culture!…

I was and still am a big fan of several of the actors in the film, but one in particular seems to have disappeared, Anthony Thompkins, he has a very small part as a pledge called Doo-Doo Breath, and I think this was the last role I ever saw him in, wonder what happened to him?
